PNEI staff went to Boracay to examine and treat Aetas in the area.

Their main objective was to estimate the heritability of otitis media within the Aeta population in Bolabog, Boracay, Aklan.  Their results revealed a high prevalence of Otitis Media in the population (30-35%) which is higher than in most indigenous population reported worldwide.  They have observed that genetic predisposition was a stronger factor than other environmental factors.  Demographic review was done and a pedigree of the population was tried to be constructed.  Further analysis of the data will confirm their findings.
